Custom work - Ion milling Tech index -> Custom Work -> Ion milling

At one point in 2008 I started to experiment with some cosmetic alternatives for Ions. I never actually produced any of them since the market was/is way oversaturated, but it was still fun practice for future cosmetic projects.

Pinch body:
Style 2.2; this was a weird idea I had that is loosely based on the Shocktech Shocker's body wave shape. My version has a "pinch" behind the feedneck. This is an interesting look but I don't think it would be very popular.

Loft body:
This body is a basic lofted "silly puddy" shape that moves in and out of the main bore leaving gaps down to the internals. The gap areas are then filled in with a chunk of material to enclose the body. This milling design was actually quite a bit more promising for a cheap machined body compared to the basic plastic-y ones at the top of the page. With a little refining this same method can actually be used for some highly intricate curves which I begun to employ on future bodies.

Helical loft body:
I tried branching out into a "themed" body style meant to be more intricate than the others on this page. I love using the helical curve commands for things like this, especially around the base of the feedneck as seen in the pictures. I originally used this style with a Shocker body, and have used it many times in newer markers.
