Maelstrom is among a series of small makers I've developed. The common ground behind this marker concept is to make the smallest marker possible while still retaining the bolt and dump chamber inside the body. At the moment there is the beginning of a trend to move parts of the marker to the frame or other locations (for instance, the Invert Mini moves the dump chamber to the frame, and reduces the body size in doing so). The size of this marker could be reduced even further if I moved things to other parts of the gun, but I want to save that for another day (see the below Eddy section).
Regardless, the size of this marker rivals any other that houses the dump chamber and firing components within the body, which is just about everything except the ICE Epic and Invert Mini. The design is very small and only a prototype, an actual production version could be even smaller. Wait until it's finished.
Maelstrom is not complete yet, but hopefully will be within a period of time (at the moment I'm re-wroking some Culex parts, and the SpectreII mod as well, they have priority). At the last update to this page I had completed the main part of the body, revealing the general shape of the final product. This is displayed here:
Seen with a 6" one-piece barrel in some of the pictures.
Please enjoy a few pictures of roughing cuts from the current stage of development. Check out my homemade boring bar bit, used in the second picture.
Maelstrom Eddy:
I mentioned above that the Maelstrom is a design that retains the dump chamber inside the body, and that the size could be reduced further by moving it to the frame. Well, after I had this idea I knew I had to try it out in CAD to see how it ranked up. I call the result the Eddy:
I chose to leave the frame internals out of this model for design purposes. Additionally, the milling looks defunct on this, but I wanted to show the absolute lack of wasted material. As a result, the marker's small size is considerable. Unfortunately, I had already started the production of the original Maelstrom model before this idea came to me, so I will save it for later.
