This is a modification I performed on one of my test Ions back in 2005. The mod involved relocating the main peripherals of the board to other parts of the gun. This involved the capacitor (moved to the bottom of the frame), LED (moved to the back of the frame), and powerswitch (moved to a membrane pad on the back of the frame).

To this end I installed a 6-point 2-mm series header to separate the board from the peripherals.

The other side of the pigtail was hardwired to the frame. The finished mod looked like this:

The capacitor was split into two 1,000-µF capacitors in the bottom of the frame, and built into the battery connector.
This mod worked but there obviously wasn't much point to it, so I just left it alone.
